Valarie Olsen, LMHC, E-RYT 200, AYS
Valarie has been practicing yoga for over 20 years in the Ft. Myers area. Back in the 1990’s the only place to practice was in the gyms around town, this is where she met influential teachers that would shape her appreciation and understanding of Yoga. In 2011, she completed yoga teacher training in Bonita Springs and began teaching in studios and community centers locally. As an Experienced Yoga Teacher, Valarie teaches gentle yoga, as well as flow and all levels classes. In 2017 she added Ayurveda Yoga Specialist training to her repertoire. Valarie is a certified meditation teacher and can provide training to individuals and groups.
Valarie is also trained as a licensed mental health counselor spending much of her career working at a local non-profit agency and now currently as an associate in a small private practice. Valarie incorporates her background in mental health, the 8 Limbs of Yoga and interest in neuroscience into her teaching. Combining interests in Yoga, Mental Health and Wellness has led Valarie to study trauma sensitive yoga. She has provided trauma-informed teacher training to scores of trainees as guest faculty in local Yoga Teacher Training programs. Valarie can provide trauma-informed training for YTT’s as well as continuing education for registered yoga teachers.

I’m so honored that you are considering joining me to THRIVE! I am passionate about sharing my love for yoga with others because I truly believe that mindful practices like yoga & its sister science Ayurveda give us the tools to we need to live our very best lives.
I found yoga at a time in my life when I desperately needed to reconnect with myself to deal with the physical and emotional toll of recurrent miscarriages. On my mat, I was able to process my grief, reconnect with myself and learn to love and appreciate a body that had once felt ‘broken’. I knew that I had found my calling in sharing yoga with others so that they too could feel better by managing their physical and mental health and well-being in a holistic way.
If we allow it to, yoga can become a refuge from the craziness of our daily lives. Our yoga mat becomes a place to find oneself, a place to drop in to ourselves and connect, a place of union with peace, joy and ultimately, love. Yoga helps us THRIVE!

I had no idea how much yoga would shape my life when I attended my first class over 20 years ago. Practicing yoga allowed me to feel at home in my body in a way that I could not fully comprehend or express at the time. It also opened my eyes to our amazing capacity for change. Initially I experienced this mostly on a physical level. My fascination with healing through movement led to a graduate degree in occupational therapy. Gradually, a steady practice of yoga and meditation led me to experience energetic and spiritual shifts as well. Seeking a deeper understanding of these subtle yet powerful shifts led me to yoga teacher training. I am so grateful that both of my professions offer me an opportunity to support others as they use yoga and movement to transform their lives.
Yoga teaches that everything we need already exists within us; it also provides us the tools we need to experience this within our daily lives. It is this physical, emotional, and spiritual shift that allows us to participate in our lives with more joy and meaning. As a registered yoga teacher with additional certifications in kid’s yoga, perinatal yoga, and Ayurveda, it is an honor to share the wisdom of these traditions with all yogis big and small.
